16 Feb 2009 >	The End, Newcastle - - The End is a fantastic place to start a tour. A former gay strip club with a very dodgy PA, not enough mics or leads, a mixing desk with less channels than the one we use on stage, but the nights run on enthusiasm alone. Jack 'n' Joel - a potty mouthed pair - had patter and home cooking that easily eclipsed any technical issues with the venue. All the very best to them.	8pm

17 Feb 2009 >	Adelphi, Hull Odd odd odd odd good. A social club in an extention to a terraced house on a residential street. The gear is connected to the wooden mixing desk by cobwebs and the rust caused by the spit of 3 decades of punk bands, glued together by a wish. Run at a massive loss by a top feller who'd rather spend 150 bucks on curry than see a band go hungry. smoking ban? what smoking ban?.	8pm

18 Feb 2009 >	Louisiana, Bristol A real live reverb chamber in the basement on a send from the mixing desk on the top floor - awesome - what wasn't so awsome was the wee jocks disguised as pete doherites in the support band - right cocks they were. cunts are dicks.	8pm

19 Feb 2009 >	The Royal, Derby Bit of a wash-out, this one. Derby isn't known for rock music. Good job we had Uncle John, Jacqs and Tom there to buy everything on our merchandise stall. And thanks to them for all the tour-nourishment and for doing some of our washing. And we got to see the site where Prince Charlie changed his mind about taking London. A few rounds of real ale in a Derbyshire Inn was enough for them to lose their agression and march back to Scotland for a wee hug.	8pm

20 Feb 2009 >	Boileroom, Guilford The best thing about this gig was the Thai food the venue provided. We played a funny slot at the start of a Brit-Pop club night full of teenagers. But alot of nice people made the effort to come along, and those who weren't there to see El Phantos were very polite and pretended to be into it - listening, clapping etc.	8pm

21 Feb 2009 >	Macbeth, London: Twisted Licks night Sold Out. rammed and a bit mental. First time we'd played the album in London and we couldn't be happier with how it went down. Nice to play to lots of friends. One of the first times we've ever seen strangers singing along to the tracks, which is a weird one for us. Bad sound, but we played a belter. The pub across the road had to send for more staff after we chose it as our after-party venue. Persuaded the entire pub to pose for a Phantom photo.	8pm

Description:William Brodie, a respected figure in Edinburgh, lived a double life as a highly skilled burglar. His cover blown when an accomplice turned king's evidence, Brodie fled to Amsterdam but was soon apprehended, returned to Edinburgh for trial, and condemned to death. Brodie, an amateur inventor, is credited with a device first tested at his own execution: the drop. (Whereas those condemned to be hanged had long been unceremoniously pushed from a high platform, Brodie developed the trapdoor-and-lever system which has became the industry standard.) On the gallows, Brodie, called upon to inspect the arrangements, pronounced them satisfactory - and was promptly dropped. In 1581, James Douglas, Earl of Morton, was beheaded by the "maiden," a guillotine-type device which he himself had introduced to Scotland. Go to the Wooden Box With A Fistful of Fivers single launch tomorrow night at King Tut

Wooden Box are a really very good duo and
Wilson Tan are also well worth a watch if you like slightly demented country with a tiny hint of the psychedelic.

Also this weekend is the Halt Bar Hijack Festival, which is FREE! I'm interested in seeing Hidden Masters after the brilliant show they put on at The Hot Club and, for the 2nd time this week, the awesome Triple School. Also on the bill is the likes of junior Savage's band Hindle Wakes (not sure if they are named after the Stanley Houghton play or the North-of-England chicken-based dish - but any band with Wake in the title is ok by us) and Craig B from Areogramme.

Cheveu were brilliant last night in Mono - a really manic and entertaining show. I stopped a girl's hair from catching fire, but she doesn't know that.

All in, four pounds well spent. We left the evening believing it is a good idea to do a song about being in Slayer.

Finally, we made it into Grazia magazine for the third time, which I think is a farbetter accolade than any other press coverage you could ever imagine. Cheers Lauren! You can have a look HERE if you so fancy.

Anyway, it's the Glasgow Degree Show tonight so better go and put a ribbon in my hair.

Going to see Cheveu tonight at Mono in Glasgow. Quite excited about it. Check them out their MySpace . Also on the bill is Triple School and Ballad of Mable Wong who are both great too. First time we've looked forward to a gig in ages - touring kind of makes going to see bands the last thing you'd want to do in your spare time.

Anyone got the new Alasdair Roberts album? If not, we'd wholeheartedly recommend it. Reckon it's a wee bit more Bonnie 'Prince' Billyish in its production- less traditional Scottish folk in the instrumentation (of which there is more) than previous albums, but I don't think that's a bad thing. They're great, this is great:

As a complete antithesis, another recommendation for today is Desalvo's new album:

We did a gig with Desalvo one Hogmanay, and the band was split over them. But fuck it, those Phantoms who don't have the web know-how can't argue - I think this is as Mood Poisoning as I hoped it would be. Anger is good. Metal up yer clackervalve.

FINALLY I've got Dreamweaver to work on this laptop (made of wood, powered by straw, peat and disease) so I'm able to update this website that everyone has given up looking at.

The Euro/UK tour is over and if it weren't for the nice weather, being back home would be making us all consider throwing ourselves under a ferry.

We've been back into the studio and we writhed and felt all sexybad in the pleasure of not playing anything off Checkmate Savage. Consequently we've written about three albums-worth of new material.

We also signed our record deal, finally, a week after it was released.

SORRY! it has been ages since last we updated this. But here we are, better late than never.

CHECKMATE SAVAGE

On 29 August 19Oatcake, the remaining 36 inhabitants of this bleak and folley forsaken island group situated several miles off the Western coast, took ship for the mainland. A community that had survived alone for quenturies finally succumbed to the ravages let in through mainland contact. What their lives had been century after century, why they left and what happened to them afterwards is the subject of mystery. It is the story of a way of life quite unlike any other, told here in words and warbles, and of how the impact of modern civilization becomes their own untimely demise...

look mum, thanks to the socks with the man on them we made a record. and Dad likes it.

It's back from pressing and we're pretty happy with it. The CD is in Digipack format and the first few thousand have a different print on the CD itself. They're no better, just different, so they'll obviously be worth loads of money in the future. So order it by clicking on it.

The vinyl version of the album comes with 8 tracks and a free 7" containing another track. You can also download the digital version for free if you purchase your LP through CHEMIKAL.
